The Constant...

The Constant…

People are creatures of habit. In one way or another, whether you are 5 or 75, dis organized or organized, care free or structured, we all have habits. These habits shape our lives in visible and unseen ways. Maybe that is because we were created in the image of God, the ultimate constant, the one thing that never fades, superseding time and space altogether. Maybe that is why we seek things out repetitively, in search of that constant. At Love City, we have also had our constant.

Inga has been putting together a more in-depth publication of some things that are going on at Love City currently. Those of you who keep up with these Love Letters will be receiving those in the mail soon. These more in-depth overviews are something we have put together in the past, and as I was looking back at the versions we sent out nearly 10 years ago, I realized there was a constant at Love City. One that we say often, and should be obvious from the name, but that we have undoubtedly stuck to over the past 10 years. That constant is our mission, and it is all about Love.

In 1 John 4:8 it says “God is Love”. And when we look at 1 Corinthians 13 we see a breakdown of what that really means. A breakdown of some of the characteristics that are and are not in the essence of God. Then Paul draws a contradiction between things that at some point or another come to an end, and the things that are eternal. With the three things he says never fade away being Faith, Hope, and Love, but the greatest of which is Love. Because Love is passed, infectiously, between partners, families, and strangers. Receiving Love inspires us to Love in return. The Love that you show to a stranger can alter their life in ways you never see for generations after your skin and bones have turned back into dirt. It is the one thing we have that we can pass onto others that will without a doubt live on long after us. And that is what our mission has been since the beginning.

To Love our neighbors and community, creating a culture, that empowers a movement of loving people as they are. A pure, unadulterated, contagious Love that transforms individuals, families, and communities. The same mission that was in our 2016 update, the same mission that is in this 2025 update, the same mission that will be in the 2026 update. It is our constant, and it is the thing that will outlive us, Love City, and this community. It is Love.
