Mighty Oak's Last Day of the Year...

Mighty Oak’s Last Day of the Year…

Today is the culmination of a year of hard work for our students, a year of planning and careful attention by our teachers, and another year of growth for our school family. It is a year of fun field learning experiences, exciting experiments, and impressive improvements by our students. These improvements were earned by our students and teachers, through tears of frustration, feelings of hopelessness, and a steady determination, just like all learning. But these moments were sprinkled throughout the joy, laughter, and music that often emanates from the classrooms. Just like every other day, the last day of school often brings with it a mixed bag of feelings for everyone.

Just as we have seen happy and sad tears over this year, there were ancient cultures that supposedly valued both types of tears equally. In Jesus’ day there were things called tear vases. These tear vases were small glass vases with a lip on them that allowed people to catch their tears and encapsulate their memories, good or bad. In Luke’s recounting of the woman anointing Jesus’s feet, it is also mentioned that she first washed his feet with her tears and hair. She was dumping out, offering up all the memories she had stored onto the feet of Jesus.

In the same way, we bring our tears to you Lord. Joy and sorrow all the same we pour out at your feet. We thank you for the moments you have given our school community this year. We thank you for the students and the teachers you brought into our community. We thank you for the relationships you created and the connections you brought. We appreciate the seeds that were planted, the growth that occurred, and the fruit that was produced. We pray for protection over our students now as they leave our care. Pray for peace as they leave your atmosphere. Pray that we taught them to remain in peace as chaos tries to suck them in. We pray for your guidance and continued protection over those who have moved away this year, or who are moving on next year, that enough seeds were planted that we one day get to see all the fruit that you will bring forth from them. We pray for rest over our team, true rest, that gives them creativity and guidance on the children coming into their care next year. We pray that the foundations that have been laid thus far are just a fraction of what is to come. Lord, continue to guide this school into what you want it to be, your Kingdom on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us. Lead us not into temptation, but lead us in your Goodness. For yours is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, forever and ever. Amen.
